What Islam says about dream
Dreams are part of the islamic traditions. Even though it was Ibn Sirin who formalized the interpretation of dreams in Islam in his book, the significance of dreams appear in several hadiths of the Prophet Mohammad (s.a.a.w.). After the Prophet’s death, some Hadiths were questioned, but the controversy ceased after several Prophet’s Companions authenticated these Hadith.
The following are the prophet Mohammad (s.a.a.w.) said about dreams in Islam:
- Every dream is personal. It is aimed at dreamers whatever their situation.
- The dream descends on the wing of the dove and it is as volatile as a feather in the air. This is probably the most important Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad on dreams in Islam. This mainly concerns interpretation. From the start, the dream can have many meanings and it will therefore be the role of the interpreter to find the right meaning.
- Never tell your dreams. The systematic warning of Prophet Muhammad is never to tell his dreams. However, we can do this if we can talk to an Oulema who can extract the right meaning.
- Very few dreams have any meaning. Most dreams have no meaning and only some represent a divine message for dreamers.
